Running The Road

A Half Hour TV Show featuring the Sport of Running, Racing and Track Meets in and Around the State of Florida

"Running The Road" is a 30 minute TV show that features popular races in and around the State of Florida, but primarily those of the Jacksonville TV viewing area. The show was produced by Jay Redford, of Jacksonville and was sponsored by a monthly donation from The Jacksonville Track Club as well as various businesses in the Jacksonville community, including 1st Place Sports owned and operated by Doug Alred. Doug is instrumental in organizing Jacksonville's many races, including the Gate River Run, an annual event attracting many thousands of runners from around the nation.

The production of "Running The Road" was unique in that it used a special camera mount that allowed ultra smooth video coverage with extreme closeups of the runners. Unlike the bouncy video coverage of the Boston Marathon and the New York Marathon, Running The Road's multi camera productions appear to be done with the quality of a "Steady Cam" shoot. The show is produced and edited on betacam SP format to broadcast network specifications with stereo audio sound track.

Bob Thacker is the show host and is also a running athelete. During one of the episode's Bob ran the race and came in first in record time while announcing show segments and commentary along the way. Bob is known locally for his "Voice the the Jacksonville and Orange Park Kennel Club" Dog track races.

"Running The Road" is available for rebroadcast as reruns and inquires are incouraged. It is currently off the air pending new title sponsorship but VHS copies of episodes may be ordered through this web site.
